World Symposium of Choral Music planning commences in earnest

Qatar National Choral Association (QNCA) recently hosted the International Federation of Choral Music (IFCM) board members, visiting Qatar in preparation for the World Symposium of Choral Music (WSCM), which will take place in Qatar in 2023/24.

Nineteen members of the IFCM board and staff were present, all senior figures in the choral world representing 17 countries from across the globe.

This WSCM event will bring thousands of singers and choirs from across the world to Qatar to take part in a myriad of workshops, presentations, as well as formal and informal concerts and performances across Doha. The WSCM aims to attract many of the best choirs from the Gulf and Mena regions.

In between an intensive meeting schedule, the visitors saw the many proposed event venues, especially the symposium's HQ location at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). They were stunned by the beauty of Qatar and how warmly embraced they felt while taking in the best of Qatar's touristic experiences. The Steering, Artistic and Administrative committee meetings considered many things, including the adaptation of the final programme according to location requirements.

The goal of this important visit for Qatar was to advance the international mission statement of this global event, allowing Qatar to be at the forefront of the world choral arts. Emily Kuo Vong, president of the IFCM, said "this World Symposium of Choral Music in December/January 2023/24 aims to mirror the success of the preceding FIFA World Cup. Qatar will be seen not just at the centre of the sports world, but also in the arts world."
