Doha: Work has begun on the Dhow Boat Marines Construction project at three locations along the Doha Corniche. The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar announced that the first one will come up near Al-Bidda pedestrian underpass, while the second will be built near Al Dafna pedestrian underpass and the third near The Sheraton Park in cooperation with Qatar Tourism, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Municipality and Private Engineering Office.
Eng Sara Kafood, Deputy Chairman of Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar said that the dhow boat marines contribute to highlighting features of the Corniche area from a tourism and entertainment perspective, especially considering the increase in the number of visitors that the country is witnessing in preparation for FIFA World Cup 2022.
Eng. Kafood added: These boats are one of the cultural and heritage facades of the country, and this project will contribute to facilitating their movement as they are located in the most vital and popular site. Thus, it will also enable visitors to have an exceptional experience and explore Doha through the waterfront and be introduced to some of Qatar’s heritage and culture, in addition to the advancement of economy and tourism of Qatar.
Eng. Maryam Al-Kuwari, Project Design Engineer, said that the project contributes to providing and preparing modern facilities with high standards and specifications that serve the needs of boat owners, considering the highest standards of quality and safety during the design and construction. This contributes to achieving environmental awareness consequently improving the quality of life. Overall, the project includes within the second and third sites; a drainage network and low voltage electricity network, and the third site also includes a drinking water network. In turn, these marines will provide parking for dhow boats. The project was designed in a simplified way, based on the unification and consistency of materials used to match the underpasses located in the Doha Corniche, where sustainable materials were used that can withstand weather conditions, considering the possibility of expanding the marinas and increasing the number of parking spots in each marina in the future.
Eng. Al Kuwari added: The project contributes to facilitating the process of passengers boarding the boats, as it provides suitable and safe corridors to be used by all age groups, taking into account people with special needs, as an alternative to the random lanes that are currently used which can distort the general view of the Doha Corniche.
