WhatsApp drug dealer jailed for five years

Doha: The Criminal Court has sentenced one person to jail for possession and sale of narcotic substance via WhatsApp.

The investigation records reveal that the accused had concealed 32 packets of hashish and 70 capsules used to treat nerve pain, which is listed as a dangerous psychoactive substance. The authorities raided and confiscated all prohibited items from him.

The accused had met a person, a drug dealer, from outside the country through WhatsApp and got location coordinates over chat to reach the site where the banned narcotic substance is hidden. The accused would search the hidden items using the coordinates and then sell them on WhatsApp.

The court sentenced the accused to five years in jail and ruled that he must pay a fine of QR200,000. The drug dealer will be deported from the country after the completion of the sentence.
