Al Wakrah Municipality’s health control section conducted 420 inspection tours last month at various food establishments there.
The inspection campaign resulted in the issuance of seven violations of Law No 8 of 1990 on the regulation of human food control, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said in a statement.
Six of these cases were resolved through reconciliation after the violators paid the stipulated fines.
Also, one violation report was referred to the security department concerned for necessary legal procedures, the statement noted.
In addition, some 435kg of foodstuff was destroyed for being unfit for human consumption.
Further, the director of Al Wakrah Municipality issued two administrative decisions to shut down a cafeteria and a restaurant for keeping foodstuff unfit for consumption there.
In another development, the MME’s Environmental Protection and Wildlife Department has carried out a clean-up campaign at Rawdat Simaisma in co-operation with ministry’s General Cleanliness Department.
During the campaign, warning and instruction signs were put up at the site in addition to planting more than 500 wild trees and maintaining the green cover there, the statement added.
