Municipalities are celebrating Tree Week 2017 with a number of planting and gardening activities in addition to various workshops to raise awareness on the importance of planting and the need to maintain and plant trees.
In this regard, Al Daayen Municipality is organising several awareness activities and markets in co-operation with schools in order to increase environmental awareness and to highlight the efforts of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to beautify neighbourhoods, streets and common areas.
‘A Flower Each Spring’ programme is celebrating tree week at its headquarters at Ras Matbakh, in Al Khor area by organising different activities and events.
Head of ‘A Flower Each Spring’ programme, Dr Saif Ali al-Hajari, encouraged to increase planting in the community, especially desert plants. He urged people to plant using any method due to the importance of plants and their efficiency to fight toxic gases such as carbon dioxide. He also called on parents to teach children planting, and raise their awareness on the importance to maintain lands and refrain from cutting plants.
He also encouraged Qatari farmers to expand planting in their allocated space and help in raising awareness in the community.
The trip was attended by the Holy Qur’an Centre, Al Markhiya Primary School for Girls, Friends of the Environment Center where they learnt about trees, methods to plant them, and ways to care for vegetation.
