Exciting offers and initiatives by hotels, restaurants, museums and other retail outlets have not only given a chance to residents to explore the country this summer, but have also reinvigorated Qatar’s tourism sector.
The recovery in country’s tourism sector is expected to gain further momentum in coming days with the beginning of fourth phase easing of restrictions. The first phase the fourth phase of easing of COVID-19 restrictions is set to begin from Tuesday.
With further lifting of restrictions, the tourism sector will be bustling with activities, as more people will be allowed to visit tourist places and outdoor excursions.
From September 1, museums will be allowed to operate with full capacity; the souqs will be allowed to operate with 75 percent capacity while local exhibitions can be held with a capacity of 30 percent. Additionally, Doha Metro and buses will also be operating with 30 percent capacity, which would help more people to reach their destinations easily and safely.
“We have seen a significant increase in the enquiries about our staycation offers this month. The number of citizens and expatriates availing our staycation offers has increased and we expect further increase in guest arrivals in coming days,” a senior official of a hotel told The Peninsula.
The attractive offers by hotels have made this summer memorable for citizens and residents. Hotels are offering a wide range of staycation packages and other hospitality deals.
These include discounts of up to 50 percent on room bookings, hotel packages with an additional free night stay, beach and pool packages, as well as special food and beverage (F&B) promotions.
This year’s Qatar Summer Programme by Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) includes staycation packages, Culture Pass discounts, virtual fashion shows and outdoor activities. People planning a staycation trip will not have to worry about their safety.
QNTC has also launched the Qatar Clean programme in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health, which sets strict standards for sterilisation and disinfection that all hotel establishments must adhere to, ensuring guests can enjoy a worry-free experience this summer and beyond.
Qatar’s hospitality sector has remained buoyant despite challenges. The hotels added a total of 1,050 rooms during the last quarter of 2019, according to the fourth quarter 2019 review issued by consulting firm ValuStrat. Countrywide occupancy of hotels during the first 11 months of 2019 stood at 64 percent, up 5 percent compared to 2018.
