It is set to get hotter in the country as the temperature is expected to soar to 3-6°C above normal on Sunday and Monday, the Qatar Met department has said.
Friday, the weather office has forecast strong winds and high seas in offshore areas in the early hours of the day.
The Met department had on Wednesday tweeted about the possibility of a “noticeable rise” in temperature on March 12 and 13 due to southerly winds. Thursday, it provided a more detailed explanation on its social media channels.
“Weather charts indicate that the country will be affected by southerly moderate to fresh winds during (the) daytime on Sunday and Monday (March 12 and 13),” the report said. These conditions are likely to lead to a “noticeable rise” in temperature, which will be 3-6°C above their average levels for this time of the year, according to the Met department.
The maximum temperature is expected to reach the mid-30°C levels during the said period in the central, western and southern parts of the country. Also, there is a chance of blowing dust and low visibility in open areas, the report adds.
Fridays’s detailed forecast says it will be hazy in the early hours of the day, followed by mild daytime conditions. It will also be partly cloudy at times and relatively cold by night.
Slight dust is expected in offshore areas, while hazy to misty conditions may prevail by late in the night. The wind speed in these areas will be 14-22 knots at first and then decrease to 5-15 knots by the afternoon.
The sea level may rise to 7ft in the early hours.
A minimum temperature of 15°C is likely in Wakrah, Mesaieed and Al Khor today, while in Doha it will be 18C. The maximum, on the other hand, will be between 23°C and 29°C.
Thursday, a minimum temperature of 15°C was recorded in the Qatar University area, Turayna and other places, and 20°C in the Doha airport area. The maximum ranged from 22°C to 30°C.
Meanwhile, the extended weekend forecast by the Met department shows that foggy conditions are expected early Friday and there is also a weak chance of light rain in some places.
