Projects worth trillions of dollars are either under construction or in planning stage across the GCC that follow the sustainable development model, a report at Sustainability Summit 2017 revealed.
According to Zawya Projects data, “As much as $ 2.87tn worth of projects are in the design, bid or construction stage in the GCC up to 2025, with $ 1.53tn worth of real-estate projects already under construction,”
On the second day of Sustainability Summit 2017, organised by Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (Gord) there were four sessions which featured discussions on Carbon and Climate Change and Sustainable Built Environment. The summit concluded yesterday at Ritz-Carlton Doha.
The sessions deliberated a number of important topics such as ‘Operational Performance of Built Environments for Human Wellbeing and Resources’; ‘Climate Mitigation Projects for GCC’; ‘Technologies, Solutions and Opportunities’ and ‘Sustainable Building Design and Construction’.
At the end of the first day of the summit, all the Sustainability Summit speakers visited the Kahramaa Awareness Park in Doha which is an ambitious initiative to promote the culture of conservation of electricity and water among children.
A number of companies and organisations were among the exhibitors of Sustainability Summit 2017 including Kahramaa, Nakheel Landscapes, Al Waab Plastics, embassy of Canada as well as Zoysia Al Khalij.
At the end of the summit, various stakeholders and contributors were recognised through certificates of appreciation and recognition by Dr Yousef al-Horr, founding chairman of Gord including the conference speakers, sponsors and exhibitors as well various categories of GSAS CGPs and GSAS Service Providers for their contribution and performance in sustainability excellence during implementation of GSAS.
This year’s event was attended by international sustainability stalwarts representing organisations such as KEO Intl., OiER, UNFCCC, IETA, Iberdrola, KNPC, Ecofys, Int. Energy Agency and Int. Atomic Energy Agency as well as local organisations including Kahramaa, FIFA Qatar Local Organising Committee, SC, Tarsheed, Arab Union of Electricity, Arab Engineering Bureau, Ministry of Development, Planning and Statistics, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, QNRF, Qatar Airways, Qatar Rail, Dar al Handasah and Marafeq and also academia representatives from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar University, University of Wolverhampton, and Texas A&M University Qatar.
