SSOC underlines success of its plans to secure Arab Cup

The Safety and Security Operations Committee (SSOC) confirmed the success of its plan to secure FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, which concluded on December 18, pointing out that this success is a strong indication that Doha is ready to secure FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

This came in statements by committee officials, during which they indicated that the Arab Cup hosted by Doha recently achieved great success at all levels, adding that the security success was a prominent sign for this tournament, as well as for the African Super Cup match. They added that this success is the result of an integrated effort of SSOC with all its units, which were able to provide the highest level of high-end security services and provide security and safety to all parties of the tournament.

Capt Eng Nasser Ahmed al-Zeyara, head of communication and strategic partner relations department in the office of the SSOC chairman, said that the 2022 World Cup is a strategic goal for the country and its achievement is moving at a steady pace, noting that the committee has completed many files assigned to it during the last period and it is working on completing other files in the coming period.

He noted that the SSOC supervised the securing of many international matches and major sports tournaments, to provide Qatari security leaders with the necessary skills to manage the security of these tournaments, and to identify the roles, co-ordination and follow-up mechanism, and ways to control the event in the event of an emergency or a riot, or the like.

Information is also exchanged with security experts, which enhances the effectiveness of security and protection measures that will be applied during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, he explained, stressing that the security aspect is an authentic party in any major sporting event. Al-Zeyara pointed out that the committee is working in full co-operation with all parties to secure the World Cup and the fans, who are expected to attend and provide security and safety means for all at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

He also noted that the security work goes hand in hand with the plans of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and FIFA to ensure integrated planning and management of operations worthy of the reputation of the State of Qatar, pointing to many partnerships with many countries and international organisations, most notably the Project Stadia, which is the fruit of co-operation and partnership between the State of Qatar and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), for 10 years, as it was launched in 2012 and extends until 2022.

The project aims to provide an international knowledge base for best practices in planning and executing policing and security preparations for hosting major international events and will leave a lasting legacy for other countries. Capt Eng. Nasser Ahmed al- Zeyara affirmed that the Arab Cup experience and other sporting events hosted by Doha demonstrated the competence and merit of all parties in the country, including the SSOC.

Deputy head of the planning and follow-up unit and head of the coordination and follow-up department in the office of the SSOC chairman for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar Capt Hamad Abdullah al-Sulaiti confirmed that the unit, which operates under the SSOC umbrella, succeeded in carrying out all the planning and coordination tasks during the Arab Cup in accordance with international standards that govern security work in major sporting tournaments and events.

He pointed out that the committee succeeded in managing security operations 24 hours a day to enable the strategic leader of the tournament to focus on implementing all security plans, especially during match days, by consulting with key partners, determining the level of support required, dealing with any incident and determining security requirements, in addition to providing briefings to senior national and international partners on the security situation and operations.

Supervisor of the bronze program in the Qualification and Training Unit of the SSOC Capt. Abdullah Darwish said that the experience of securing the Arab Cup represented a rehearsal for the security cadres, especially at the inspection gates of the various stadiums that witnessed the matches. He added that the performance was distinguished by speed, which was reflected in the flow of the movement of the masses entering after their inspection, solving the problems that arise and treating them in the best way according to the applicable controls.

Capt Abdullah Darwish pointed out the importance of taking advantage of the negatives and the positives, as the negatives are evaluated, and their causes are studied to avoid them in the upcoming events, in addition to reinforcing and emphasizing the positives. On the experience of securing the African Super Cup match, the leader of the third group, which secured the match at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan Capt. Mohamed Khalifa al-Kubaisi explained that the match did not differ from the Arab Cup matches in terms of the huge fans, which prompted the opening of all the stadium gates, considering the match is one of the CAF's important matches.
