Qatar Charity (QC) has conducted Iftar El-Saim project in Iraq in co-operation with Iraqi
humanitarian organisations.
Some 20,000 people were expected to benefit from the project.
In a statement, QC noted that the project focused on migrants in Mosul and its outskirts.
Since the beginning of Ramadan, QC started organising group Iftar events in lodging areas of migrants, as well as camps, distributing food baskets and meals to families. It includes rice, chicken, milk, water, dates, bread and other items that Iraqis usually eat in Ramadan.
QC said the project in Iraq aims to satisfy the food needs of migrant families, firmly establishing the principle of social solidarity and communicating with Iraqi people and supporting them in their plight.
Mohamed al-Kaabi, director, relief department at QC, said that they chose to launch this project in Iraq due to the country’s sad condition, particularly places like Mosul and Salahuddin, and in the west, Al Anbar and the outskirts of Baghdad.
A large number of people abandoned these areas and ended up in camps and buildings due to lack the basic facilities.
Al-Kaabi said that the migrant families in these areas suffer from sever food and water shortages.
“This requires a constant support to them under the normal circumstances, let alone in Ramadan, which happens to coincide with the season of high temperatures,” he noted. “This demands assisting Iraqis and providing them with all what is required to get them through
Ramadan.”
Al-Kaabi urged donors to support the project in Iraq, which provides food and other needs to families, especially migrants.
“This is a real opportunity for the benefactors of our people in Qatar who are best known for heeding our humanitarian appeals,” he said.
Overall, QC had allocated QR10,031,451 for the project, which was expected to provide for 952,889 individuals. The countries that benefit from this project include Syria, Bangladesh, Niger, India, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Mauritania, Indonesia, Yemen, Ethiopia, Nibal, Palestine, Sudan, Djibouti, Ghana, Benin, Chad, Comoros, Senegal, Kenia, Pakistan, Jordan, Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria, Iraq, Togo, United Kingdom, Lebanon, Morocco, Philippines, Bosnia, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, Kosovo, Albania, and Turkey.
