At the outset of the meeting, Mustafa Sentop, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly gave a speech in which he referred to a set of topics related to Islamic parliamentary work. He pointed to the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the importance of supporting it, and strengthening the parliamentary efforts of Islamic countries to stop the violations against the Palestinians and work to obtain their rights.
He also pointed to the capability of Islamic countries to work jointly and fruitful co-operation, indicating that the common ties that bring together Islamic countries outweigh the causes of division and difference.
For his part, Muhammad Qureshi Nias, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), stressed the need to build bridges of co-operation and understanding within the Islamic nation to produce unified results and avoid disagreement as well as the need to discuss all issues related to joint co-operation in an atmosphere full of understanding and mutual respect.
During the meeting, areas of joint co-ordination of the Islamic Parliamentary Group were reviewed and topics on the agenda of the General Assembly were discussed. The meeting was attended by Qatar's ambassador to Spain Abdullah bin Ibrahim al-Hamar, HE member of the Shura Council and Chairman of the Council's Internal and External Affairs Committee Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri and HE the Secretary-General of the Council Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al-Fadala.
