Doha: The Supervisory Committee for the Shura Council Elections has received many grievances and objections regarding voter lists and a number of them have been accepted.
Messages will be sent to people whose requests have been approved soon.
“We have received many grievances/objections during the last four days. Thursday (today) is the last day for people to raise objections. Many of these grievances/objections have been solved and messages will be sent to the people concerned,” said Brigadier Salem Saqr Al Muraikhi, Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Committee.
Al Muraikhi said many of the grievances and objections were related to citizenship conditions and transferring votes from one electoral district to another.
Speaking in a video posted on the Ministry of Interior's website about the second part of the first phase of voter registration, he said the committee was still studying many of the grievances and objections it received. It will examine the documents submitted by the complainants so that the committee will study the final decision which will be issued by nine members of the committee.”
The final voter lists will be announced on August 22. The Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Committee said the law lays out legal course in the event of an objection or grievance.
“A person must submit documents that support his request so that the committee can study the request and issue the correct decision in this regard. Everyone still has a chance today to visit the electoral headquarters and submit any objection or grievance either in the morning or evening shifts.
"In response to the requests by many citizens, we extended the period to file objections and grievances to two shifts, morning and evening,” he said.
Al Muraikhi noted that the committee started receiving grievances on Sunday, August 8, and will continue receiving until 8pm today (Thursday).
Citizens will elect 30 members of the Shura Council, while H H the Amir will appoint another 15.
The Supervisory Committee for the Shura Council Elections has sub-committees for monitoring the electoral process and referring violations to the relevant committees to impose penalties.
The Ministry of Interior has said that it will not tolerate any violating acts, especially with regard to inciting tribal, sectarian and religious hatred.
