The sewage facility will be constructed based on the sequencing batch reactor (SBR) technology that utilises bio-oxidation. Air and microbes are injected and the sludge is allowed to settle by cutting air supply. Treated water so generated can be used for agriculture and landscaping, and the sludge can be recycled into construction material and compost.
The project that started in March 2015, will be completed by the third quarter of 2020. The project comprises sewage infrastructure with a daily average flow of 56,200 cu m. Sewage transmission mains will comprise 21km of twin rising mains and approximately 11km of twin rising mains. The treatment process includes mechanical treatment, biological nutrient removal, using SBRs, Sand Filters and Ultrafiltration, Ultra Violet disinfection and chlorination system. The treated sewage effluent transmission system will consist of about 38km of mains.A new pumping station to tractor the flows at Al Thakhira and modifications to the existing pumping station at Alkhor are also included in the project.
Ashghal has so far completed Doha North Sewage Treatment Works and Doha and Doha West Sewage Treatment Works. Works are on to complete the Doha South Sewage Infrastructure project. Besides, it has planned a sewage treatment plant project for Al Wakrah and Al Wukair catchment areas.
