Doha: The schools' traffic plan of the Ministry of Interior's (MoI) General Department of Traffic is actively supported by live monitoring cameras and the department is always ready to intervene promptly in case of emergencies, the Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, Brigadier Dr Mohammed Radi Al-Hajri said during an interview on Qatar Radio on Monday.
Al Hajri noted that the traffic plan for schools is based on strengthening the field deployment of patrols and traffic men at all intersections, main roads, and around school perimeters with the aim of managing and controlling the flow of traffic and reducing accidents.
"This plan is supported by surveillance cameras which monitor and transmit live broadcasts of traffic, thereby enabling prompt and rapid intervention in emergency situations," he said.
Al-Hajri added that this plan is an extension of the efforts made by the General Traffic Department throughout the year to reduce traffic accidents, and reduce severe injuries and deaths resulting from accidents.
He added that the General Traffic Department has conducted many activities to raise traffic awareness among students, parents, and commuters.
"The department is also concerned with road maintenance and road implementation in cooperation with Ashghal, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of Municipality," Al Hajri said.
He advised that people should be patient wherever there are traffic diversions as it is usually for a short period of time before it ends.
