The Qatar Sports for All Federation at the Ministry of Sports and Youth announced yesterday that the 2021 edition of the Qatar East-to-West Ultra Run would take place on December 10. Runners’ endurance will be tested in the 90km race.
The registration for the marathon opened yesterday, and organisers hope to motivate members of society to practice sports and make it a part of their daily life. Over 500 competitors are expected to participate in the 16-hour race this year which is open to professional runners and amateurs. The participants have to be healthy and must meet specific fitness requirements.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry’s headquarters yesterday, Abdullah Al Dosari, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, explained that registration for the marathon would be available through the Qatar Sports for All Federation. The option to participate will be open to all by registering as a team consisting of no more than six competitors or as individuals.
Abdullah Al Dosari also said that the marathon would start from the Sheraton park to Dukhan beach, and there will be five stops during the race to give participants rest, during which they will be served food and drink.
Also, ambulances and police vehicles will be available to assist the contestants under the supervision of specialised doctors.
The race will commence from 4:30 am and continue until 8:30 pm with prizes offered for the first three places. Al Dosari noted that the last edition witnessed a great turnout, as the number of participants reached 425 from 44 nationalities.
