Rawdat Al Khail Park, one of the largest parks in Qatar, opens

Doha: Minister of Municipality H E Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie yesterday inaugurated Rawdat Al Khail Park in Al Muntazah. The park, in an area of 140,000sqm, is one of the largest in the country featuring walkways, jogging track, cycle way, children’s play areas, fitness, barbecue, green areas, trees and other services for visitors.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mayor of Wilmington, Delaware, United States, H E Mike Purzycki, members of a US delegation and a number of officials from the Ministry of Municipality, Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Doha Municipality. The Minister of Municipality and Mayor of Wilmington planted a tree of friendship between Doha and Wilmington at the park.  

Assistant Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality, Mansour Abdullah Al Mahmoud, said that Rawdat Al Khail Park is part of the efforts of the Ministry  in building and developing public parks and picnicking places across the municipalities, to provide healthy, recreational and tourist places for people.

He said that it is one of the oldest parks in Qatar which attaches great importance for citizens and residents who have special bonds with it for decades. Rawdat Al Khail Park offers 1,183 metres long walkways, 1,119 metres jogging rack, 1,118 metres cycleway, 98,000sqm green areas, 1,600 trees, 40 bike racks, fitness areas with fitness equipment.

The park also features seven food kiosks, eight barbecue areas and other necessary services for the comfort of visitors such as benches and toilets. 

The children’s play areas are divided according to the age groups – 2 to 5 years old and 6 to 12 years old and a dedicated play area for children with special needs. 

Director of Doha Municipality, Mansour Ajran Al Buainain, said that the park represents an important addition to the recreational and tourist facilities and landmarks that contribute in enhancing the services provided by Doha Municipality to citizens, residents, visitors and tourists. 

Director of Public Parks Department, Eng Mohammed Ali Al Khouri, said that this is one of the central parks that serve many neighbouring areas due to its large area of 140,000 sqm, making it one of the largest parks in the country.

He lauded the efforts of Ashghal and Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar for building such a great park which contributes in influencing the behaviours of people to follow a healthy lifestyle. 

Rawdat Al Khail Park is considered one of the oldest parks in Doha. It includes perennial trees spanning more than a decade, constituting an environmental and cultural heritage. The park serves residents of many areas such as Al Muntazah, Musheireb, Fereej Abdel Aziz, Al Sadd, Al Nasr, Sudan, Najma, Mansoura, Al Hilal, Old Airport, New Salata, Nuaija, Fereej Al Asiri, Umm Ghuwailina, Fereej Al Ali, New Doha and Bin Mahmoud.

The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar developed Rawdat Al Khail Park in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Ashghal.

Eng. Mohammad Al Khalidi, Chairman of committee said: “We are delighted to developed Rawdat Al Khail park, which offers visitors of all age groups many fun experiences through a range of facilities, primarily pedestrian trails, bicycles and sports areas.”

Eng. Majed Al-Maadadi, the Project Manager said: “The development works implemented included preserving perennial trees in the park, where pedestrian & cycling paths were implemented relying on the large trees to shade them without building arches.”

Eng. Jasmine Al Sheikh, Project Design Manager said: “The distinguished design of the park combined modernity & heritage, as the designer also considered the area surrounding the park that is known with its dense population & traffic.”
