Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Tayibah Al Shamilah Trading, an innovative recycling services and solutions provider, signed yesterday a cooperation agreement to promote community contributions for those in need.
The agreement was signed by Eng. Ibrahim Abdullah Al Malki, CEO of QRCS and Mohamed Abdullah Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of Tayibah.
Under the agreement, the company will create a mobile application to facilitate the donation of used items by the public. The revenue will go to the Patient Support Fund, a humanitarian project launched by QRCS in 2010 to help the poor patients to cover the costs of medical care.
Also, a call centre and hotline will be established to receive the donations, which will then be collected, stored, and used in a healthy and preventive way that ensures the protection of donors, beneficiaries, and personnel.
This agreement is another method to employ modern technology in charitable work. This involves communication with the donors anywhere in the country; the handling of the in-kind donations (which can include used clothes, purses, household accessories, carpets, electric appliances, etc.; and the listing, storage, transportation, and classification of the items using QRCS’s donation tracking system.
The Patient Support Fund is a humanitarian programme that addresses the needs of poor patients whose lives are badly affected by health problems. By providing the necessary medications and medical services, it helps to promote solidarity and compassion among the rich and the poor, with no discrimination on the basis of colour, race, or religion.
Funded mainly from the revenue of charity paid by individual and institutional donors in Qatar, it ultimately seeks to enhance public health in Qatar in light of the national health strategies towards the human development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
