Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation, organised the annual summer Al-Bawasil programme on its premises in Al Muntazah recently.
Al-Bawasil Health Club is an annual programme of recreational and educational activities, organised by QDA for children diagnosed with diabetes and aged 6-11 years during the summer.
The programme gives them a full day in a safe environment to have much fun and relate to each other while learning about diabetes.
The programme included several ice-breaking activities for the children to interact with their peers. They also participated in the ‘Insulin Injection Sites’ workshop, the ceramic colouring workshop and the ‘Little Chef’ session where the children prepared healthy snacks by themselves under the supervision
of QDA dietitians.
Dr Abdullah al-Hamaq, executive director of QDA, said: “Our approach is to teach by playing, to reviewing and correcting children’s information. Children’s response to learning is usually great in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. We have also introduced the children to the
International Al-Bawasil camp for children with diabetes for a smooth transition as well as to gain their confidence and encourage them to join the camp, which is organised annually by the association during January and requires the children to stay away from home for a week.”
