A key QDA event, Al Tahadi camp aims to help living with Type1 diabetes lead healthier, happier, and more productive lives through good diabetes management.
The camp consists of diabetes self-care education sessions, simulating real life situations to apply problem solving all in a fun entertaining atmosphere.
A team of experts run the camp to help participants learn diabetes self-management.
In collaboration with Generation Amazing and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, there will be two football sessions: one for girls and one for boys, on the last day.
Type 1 diabetes is caused by an autoimmune reaction where the body’s defence system attacks the cells that produce insulin.
As a result, the body produces very little or no insulin.
The exact causes of this are not yet known but are linked to a combination of genetic and environmental conditions.
Type 1 diabetes can affect people at any age, but usually develops in children or young adults.
People with Type 1 diabetes need daily injections of insulin to control their blood glucose levels.
QDA executive director Dr Abdulla al-Hamaq said: “People with type 1 diabetes need daily insulin treatment, regular blood glucose monitoring and a healthy lifestyle to manage their condition effectively, and this is the goal of Al Tahadi camps where we provide education and training on good diabetes control."
"By maintaining good control of this condition, people diagnosed with diabetes lead a normal productive life and reduce the risk of long-term complications,” he added.
