Qatar receives thundery rain as cloudy weather continue

Doha: Citizens and residents woke up to a rainy morning as scattered rain was observed in some parts of the country and clouds continue to blanket Qatar.

Some places which received rain include Doha, Al Wakra, Al Wukair, Ain Khaled, and Al Thakira, as shown in videos shared on social media by citizens and residents.

On its recent weather update, Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) stated: "Cloudy weather and scattered rain observed at places over the country maybe thundery at times inshore and offshore."

Due to this weather condition, the Department shared a few safety tips during thundery rain.

- Stay in a safe place and do not stand on rooftops or close to tall trees and utility poles.

- Avoid open spaces during thunderstorms, as it might be accompanied by lighting, heavy rain, high wind, cold flakes and might cause a lack of vision.
- While driving, drivers should reduce the speed and follow the safety procedures. They are also advised to ensure that their car windows are closed and the windscreen wipers are in proper working order.
- Avoid using mobile phones and stay away from watersheds.
- To ensure safety indoors, it is recommended to disconnect the electric current from the household appliances in case a lightning bold passed through the home network.
- Avoid touching or operating electrical devices with wet hands.
- In the case of someone being struck by lightning, call 999 immediately and ask for help.

According to a recent weather update, QMD stated that the country will continue to experience weather fluctuations until the end of the week. This would involve scattered rain, may be thundery at times, as well as cloudy weather and strong winds.
