Qatar features in 30 best places to visit in 2022

Doha: Qatar has been picked as one of the 30 best places in the world to visit in 2022 by the popular international luxury travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller (CNT)

The list prepared by CNT editors mentions that Qatar is set to host the FIFA World Cup 2022 and is gearing up for it with many hospitality and tourist options for travellers.

“Want some bragging rights? Come November, Qatar will host what will be a milestone World Cup in many ways. It’s only the second FIFA World Cup to be hosted entirely in Asia, the first ever to be held in the Arab world, the first to be held outside of the Western summer and the last one to be held with 32 teams, before the pool expands to 48 in 2026. Qatar is gearing up with a slew of luxury hotels and attractions, including Qetaifan Island North (qetaifanprojects.com), a new entertainment hub with an artificial salt lake and a massive water park,” the magazine said.

“Rich in art, culture and tradition, Qatar is a country waiting to be discovered. It is centred around the generous hospitality characteristic of the local culture and the world's best hotel and restaurant brands have created an oasis of luxury in the heart of the Middle East. Travellers can immerse themselves in the destination, home to an extensive range of five-star hotels and resorts, world-class spas and wellness centres, and restaurants with Michelin-star chefs,” a recent statement from Qatar Tourism said.

Qatar Tourism has also recently signed a superyacht luxury cruises partnership with Swiss-based cruise company Emerald Cruises. According to Qatar Tourism, the partnership would see its sail from Doha in January 2023.

Qatar Tourism’s Berthold Trenkel was quoted on Cruise Industry News website as saying, “In line with the national strategy, Qatar National Vision 2030, we are expanding our tourism value proposition and are excited to welcome travellers from around the world to experience the best of Qatari hospitality both on sea and land. The new itineraries being launched with Emerald Cruises are another step towards achieving this vision.”

Cruise ships MSC Virtuosa and Mein Schiff 6 have already made calls to Doha. Besides, construction continues on the new Grand Cruise Terminal near the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and Souq Waqif on the Doha Corniche. The Terminal will have the capacity to host two megaships.
