Doha, Qatar: Muslims across Qatar commenced Eid Al Adha celebrations with prayers and greetings yesterday morning. A variety of events and activities began in the evening, highlighting the festival across the country.
Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed on Dhul Hijjah 10 and is one of the most important occasions in Islam. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s ultimate test of faith when Allah commanded him to sacrifice his son Ismail before providing a lamb as a substitute. This year, Eid Al Adha is celebrated from June 16 to 20, featuring vibrant events, special deals, and exciting activities across Qatar that cater to families, leisure seekers, and those enjoying short stays.
Yesterday evening, major Eid Al Adha venues attracted a large number of visitors. The Cultural Village Katara reaffirmed its position as a prime Eid destination with numerous visitors enjoying the activities and fireworks. Katara hosted over 40 diverse events, including musical and theatrical performances by groups from China, Syria, Morocco, Jordan, and several African countries, along with the traditional Qatari Ardha dance.
Visitors also enjoyed a spectacular daily musical performance by the Police Music Band Show. Children engaged in artistic workshops while artists showcased their unique talents through live paintings.
Msheireb Downtown Doha also saw many visitors during Eid Al Adha festivities. Families gathered at this popular city attraction to witness lively stage performances, roaming acts, a treasure hunt, and various children’s activities like face painting at Msheireb Galleria.
Souq Waqif was another major attraction on the first day of Eid, drawing many visitors in the evening.
Shopping malls were a huge draw for visitors of all ages. Mall of Qatar offered an ultimate Eid experience with the Al Rayyan TV Kids live show, fun activities like arts & crafts, henna, face painting, mascots, contests, and amazing prizes.
Doha Festival City delighted visitors with an exciting array of activities and special promotions to celebrate Eid Al Adha. Spectacular shows and performances, including interactive characters’ shows, theatrical acts, circus performances, and more at venues such as Virtuocity, Angry Birds World, and Snow Dunes within Doha Festival City entertained visitors. The festivities will continue until June 22, featuring roaming acts like a vibrant circus parade and whimsical stilt walkers.
Tawar Mall offered a blend of fun and excitement in celebration of Eid Al Adha. Art and crafts for kids, stage shows, clown balloon twisting, parades, and mascot appearances were a hit with children.
A range of parks across the country welcome the public from 5 am until 1 am, offering beautiful green spaces to relax, play, and enjoy outdoor activities. Beaches around the country provided a refreshing escape from the heat.
Old Doha Port hosted performances by a maritime traditional band, highlighting Qatar’s rich maritime arts and cultural heritage. The band performed at Al Bandar, opposite the fish market (Chabrat Al Mina), daily until June 19 from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. At Old Doha Port, kids enjoyed exciting carnival game booths around Mina District daily until June 22 from 5 pm to 10:30 pm.
