Dpha: Under the patronage of H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, the Gulf Qatari Classic Cars Association, in partnership with United Development Company (UDC), master developer of The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Island, is organising the “Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition 2021”.
The event and exhibition will be held at The Pearl-Qatar, from November 17 to 22, 2021, with the participation of 50 classic luxury cars representing different historical categories.
The organization of the “Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition 2021” follows the Ministry of Public Health’s approval of the event, and the participants’ commitment to the precautionary measures set by the Ministry, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Chairman of the Gulf Qatari Classic Cars Association, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, said: “The Qatari society is one of the societies most interested in owning classic cars, as these vehicles represent our heritage and tell about an important period in our history. Some of these cars are very rare and their date of manufacture goes back decades, while some collectors have even older vintage models from the year 1920 and even before that.” He added: “The organization of a specialized classic car exhibition under the title “Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition 2021” aims at preserving and spreading the culture of owning classic cars, while increasing community awareness of it as a cultural heritage.”
UDC President, Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board, Ibrahim Jassim Al Othman, said: “UDC is proud to host the Qatar Classic Cars Contest and Exhibition at The Pearl-Qatar for the second consecutive year, as the Island represents a landmark that combines heritage and modernity in Qatar.”
Al Othman further stressed the Company’s keenness to the highest safety standards during the event, and invited all classic car lovers to visit the exhibition, pointing out that The Pearl-Qatar provides an ideal recreational atmosphere for visitors, where they can enjoy the charming views on the Island’s boardwalk and admire the impressive and exclusive lineup of classic cars.
For his part, Omar Al Fardan, Vice-Chairman of the Gulf Qatari Classic Cars Association, said: “The Qatar Classic Cars Show brings together all owners of this category of cars, as it represents a gateway for them to display their cars to the public, who can admire the history behind these classic cars”.
Members of the Gulf Qatari Classic Cars Association also expressed their hope that the upcoming exhibition would be a distinctive addition to the car exhibition sector in general in Qatar, and to classic cars in particular, given the unique, distinctive, precious and rare classic cars that will be displayed, stressing that Qatar is one of the most prominent countries organizing such distinguished exhibitions.
The exhibition will include organizing a contest on the sidelines of the event’s activities in which the best car will be chosen from among the participating cars. A specialized committee will be formed to select the winning cars, by majority vote.The contest includes five categories of classic cars, including: First Category: 1947 and earlier, Second Category: 1948-1957, Third Category: 1958-1964, Fourth Category: 1965-1974 and Fifth Category: 1975-1990.
