Qatar Charity (QC) has marked World Teachers’ Day with the theme, ‘Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future’, focusing on the works of educators.
The day, which is observed annually on October 5, comes in light of the unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic that has led to new hardships for the education system.
Teachers have been playing a significant role in remotely providing education to children worldwide during the pandemic, shaping the future and profession of education at the same time.
Under these circumstances, Qatar Charity has already launched ‘Noon’, a distance-teaching, training and empowering platform, to meet the cultural, educational and social needs of society in these times of adversity.
Also, a distance course has been offered to remotely teach the Holy Qur’an and the phonetic rules of Qur’anic recitation, in co-operation with qualified teachers. As QC attaches significant attention to the education sector, it works on creating an appropriate environment for teachers to help them carry out their duties in various schools it supervises, a press statement noted.
Some 18 schools have benefited from a solar energy project implemented by Qatar Charity in the Gaza Strip where many teachers expressed their delight with the project, which has brought about a difference in the education system. In the past, it was not possible to use modern technologies at schools at any time due to long power cuts, and teachers had to come to schools after workings hours to review exam papers of students.
However, teachers now can check the papers through the computerised programme, and laboratories can be utilised throughout school hours, in addition to using screens for video presentations.
QC is also keen to provide a better educational environment at schools it supervises in Turkey and within Syria.
In the field of education, Qatar Charity works in more than 30 countries across Africa, Asia and Europe.
It also co-operates with the governments of those countries to achieve sustainable development goals.
Some 59,000 people in more than six countries benefited from Qatar Charity’s education projects implemented last year at a cost of QR14mn.
