*Aspire Zone, Katara and Corniche main venues of events
Qatar celebrates the National Sport Day on Tuesday with participation of citizens and residents from all segments of the society.
The celebration comes in implementation of Amiri Decision No. 80 of 2011, which stipulates that the second Tuesday of February every year shall be a sport day for the state in order to encourage everyone to participate in sporting activities. The first sport day in Qatar was held in 2012.
This year's sport day is particularly remarkable, especially as it comes after Qatar was crowned 2019 Asian Cup champions in the tournament played in the UAE.
The Sports Day Committee organises many events launched by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Qatar Sports For All Federation (QSFA), including a number of innovative events such as fun race or balloon race at Al Bida'a Park, along with special events at Aspire Zone, Katara and the Corniche.
In addition, all Qatari clubs will be conducting many sporting events. The public parks will also be ready to host sports events.
Qatar's sport day is a unique initiative which is dedicated to highlighting the importance of sport in the lives of people. The sport day also highlights the leadership's interest in the people who are the real resource to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will mark the day in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education at Al Yarmouk Preparatory School for Boys with the participation of sports federations, families and children.
QOC, through sports federations, will organise a number of events and activities for all categories and ages in order to attract the largest number of people possible. The Qatar Shooting and Archery Association is set to hold a large celebration with the participation of players and visitors.
Katara will host a number of sport events, including a weightlifting show, and the public will be able to participate in these competitions for all age groups. The Katara boxing event will be held in co-operation with the Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation.
The Qatar Athletics Federation, in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, will hold competitions for children aged 8-12, while the Qatar Women's Sports Committee (QWSC) will organise various activities including mini games for children aged 5 to 13 in co-operation with Kahramaa. In co-operation with the Organising Committee of the National Sport Day events at Katara, the QWSC will offer table tennis skills from 9.30am to 1.30pm. The Qatar Taekwondo and Judo team will hold exercises for all categories on Katara Beach throughout the morning, in addition to a taekwondo show from 12 noon to 3pm and a judo performance from 3 to 5pm.
The Qatar Golf Association will organise mini golf at Katara Beach throughout the day, while Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation will hold all-day aquathlon swimming at Katara Corniche. The Qatar Volleyball Association will organise a beach volleyball event at 8am and volleyball matches in association with Kahramaa. The Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation will hold tennis games at 9am for all categories. A fencing game will be held at 10 am at Qatar Mall and will be attended by Qatari fencing players. The Clement Academy will organise fencing matches at the MIA Park at 8am.
In addition, the Qatar Swimming Association organises water sports at the Hamad Aquatics Complex from 9am onwards.
In co-operation with the Qatar Athletics Federation, the Organising Committee of IAAF World Championships will offer athletic activities for children aged 5 to 7 at Aspire Park.
Azizia Girls Center, in tandem with the QWSC, is organising women's gymnastics and other sports.
Besides, many other public and private sector entities are organising sports events to mark the sport day.
