Doha: Qatar Airways is the Official Airline Sponsor of the highly anticipated 49th Amir Cup final clash between Al Sadd SC and Al Rayyan SC tomorrow.
The match will take place at the sixth and latest FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 venue, Al Thumama Stadium.
The high stakes match-up will feature two of the country’s biggest clubs, marking little over a year until the start of the FIFA World Cup. The Amir Cup features teams from all tiers, making it a household name in the Qatari football calendar.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H E Akbar Al Baker, said: “The Amir Cup final will give us more than one reason to celebrate by uniting fans and acknowledging how close we are towards hosting the first ever FIFA World Cup in the Middle East. The Al Thumama Stadium is an architectural masterpiece and will serve as the perfect venue for us to mark the occasion in the presence of a thrilling atmosphere. We are excited to play a role in this celebration of football and leave our mark by uniting people of all ages and backgrounds together.”
As part of preparations for the match, fans will receive a unique smart technology identification card — a Fan ID, which will be utilised as an access pass to enter the stadium, while also providing free access to the Doha Metro on match day.
The Amir Cup final will witness 100 per cent occupancy of spectators for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, while operating in line with public health requirements. With a capacity of 40,000 seats, the state-of-the-art Al Thumama Stadium resembles the design of the traditional ‘gahfiya’ head cap, paying tribute to the piece of clothing that is donned by Arabs across the region.
It will host six matches during the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, in addition to eight FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches through to the quarter-finals. Post-World Cup Al Thumama Stadium’s seating capacity will be reduced from 40,000 to 20,000, and the seats removed from the stadium will be donated to countries in need of sporting infrastructure.
The airline sponsored the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup and the UEFA Euro 2020, and has an extensive global sports partnership portfolio that includes football-governing bodies such as FIFA, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL.
As FIFA’s Official Partner, Qatar Airways has sponsored mega events including the 2019 and 2020 editions of the FIFA Club World Cup, and will sponsor the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Qatar Airways also sponsors some of the world’s top football clubs including Al Sadd SC, Boca Juniors, FC Bayern München, K.A.S. Eupen, and Paris Saint-Germain.
