Qatar Airways helped nearly 1mn people reach home during crisis

Qatar Airways has helped around 1mn people reach home during the Covid-19 pandemic, HE the Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohamed AlKhater has said.

Of them, some 100,000 were citizens of the UK, 70,000 German nationals, 45,000 French citizens and thousands from other countries, she noted.

HE AlKhater made the observations during an interview with Al Araby TV.

The national carrier of Qatar has been thanked and lauded by the foreign ministries of a number of countries, including Germany, the UK, France and others, for its efforts to bring back their citizens amid the global travel and flight restrictions, she said, stressing that Qatar Airways has played a distinct role in dealing with the crisis and helped a large number of people reach home.

HE AlKhater also referred to a number of other issues during the interview, including the closure of a part of the Industrial Area and the plan to reopen it in phases and self-sufficiency in Qatar, among several others.

She stressed that Qatar has seen remarkable developments since the blockade began when it comes to achieving self-sufficiency in various sectors as well as food security. “Qatar is well-equipped to combat Covid-19 and efforts are being made to ensure the sufficient production of masks and sanitisers."

She also referred to the medical facilities for Covid-19 treatment in Qatar, noting that healthcare is provided to all without any kind of discrimination.
