In a major milestone in global fight against coronvirus pandemic, Qatar Airways Cargo, the world’s leading air cargo carrier, has transported more than 100 million COVID-19 vaccines. Since the start of vaccine delivery, the cargo carrier has been playing an instrumental role in helping transport vital supplies to impacted countries and communities globally.
“100 million – the number of COVID-19 vaccines we have transported around the world since the launch of vaccine delivery programmes. This includes vaccines for Unicef as part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the organisation to support their Humanitarian Airfreight Initiative,” said Qatar Airways Cargo in its social media account.
Earlier this year in February, Qatar Airways Cargo, the freight division of Qatar Airways, had signed MoU with Unicef for a five-year period to support Unicef’s Humanitarian Airfreight Initiative.
Through this initiative, Qatar Airways Cargo would work closely with Unicef and its freight forwarders to prioritise the transport of vaccines, medicines, medical devices and critical supplies utilising its extensive global network and capacity.
Because of its modern facilities and expertise in pharmaceuticals, the cargo carrier can transport any type of COVID-19 vaccine safely anywhere in the world.
Also, vaccines are not a new product for the airline, as it has been transporting them since several years.
The cargo carrier has played an important role during the pandemic by flying not only its freighters but also introducing mini-freighters and passenger aircraft as cargo planes. Qatar Airways Cargo has an extensive global network covering more than 120 destinations worldwide and over 60 freighter destinations.
“Thanks to our collaboration with Bolloré Logistics, we have moved over 40 million test kits from South Korea to India: more than 220 tonnes of aid transported around the world to keep communities safe,” said Qatar Airways Cargo.
Recently, the carrier also transported two million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to Hanoi from the US.
The airline has strengthened its capacity to ensure smooth movement of vital supplies to affected communities. It has added six state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER mini-freighters to its fleet of two Boeing 747-8 freighters and 26 Boeing 777 freighters.
The airline has made significant investments in cold chain management which is part of the cargo carrier’s strategy and commitment to improving and enhancing its QR Pharma product offering and supporting the logistics around the global COVID-19 vaccination endeavour.
