The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) recently organised a blood donation campaign in co-operation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The campaign was held across a number of health centres, particularly the most-visited centres located in areas with high population density as well as the PHCC headquarters.
This was the continuation of last year’s campaign held under the slogan ‘Whoever saved a life’, targeting employees and visitors and encouraging them to participate in the initiative and promote community awareness about the value and importance of blood donation.
This was also part of the “community responsibility” of PHCC, a statement noted. Al Thumama Health Centre and Umm Slal Health Centre witnessed a large number of employees participating in the campaign.
Dr Bodour al-Shammari, paediatrician at the Al Thumama Health Centre, stressed the
importance of blood donation.
“Blood donation benefits even donors in terms of stimulating blood circulation and cell regeneration. All blood donors are subject to conditions that must be met before starting the donation process. The Blood Donation Centre takes into consideration the application of these conditions and criteria to ensure the health of the donor and patient,” Dr al-Shammari said.
Dr Hanadi al-Hail, director, Al Thumama Health Centre, honoured all 43 participants by giving them certificates of appreciation for their contribution.
Dr Nadia Saleh, director of the Umm Salal Health Centre, noted that the importance of the campaign lies in providing support and assistance to patients in need of blood and spreading the culture of voluntary donation throughout the country.
