The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) yesterday launched several activities to mark Qatar National Sport Day to highlight the importance of regular physical activity and exercise for a healthy lifestyle.
As part of the PHCC’s mission to improve the health and well-being of the people of Qatar, the awareness activities called for a positive change in the daily lives of community members by integrating physical activity into their daily lives.
National Sport Day was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of sport among the Qatari society, engaging the community, inspiring them to choose physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits which will help build strong and healthy future generations.
PHCC hosted a booth at Katara and participated with government and private organisations in health awareness programmes with doctors, nurses and dietitians giving lectures, taking vital signs, providing consultation and advice.
Across various health centres, staff took part in group exercise activities as well as sharing educational material with the public to raise awareness about the benefits of healthy lifestyle.
The team delivered a wellness and health promotion programme at Um Salal Health Centre and Barazan Park as well as a running event in 16 different schools across the country.
The week-long promotions conducted by the organisation focused promoting physical activity to start living a healthier lifestyle. By adopting a lifestyle that involves regular exercise, the impact of chronic and lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity can be reduced.
PHCC also organised an event named ‘Sports Medicine in Primary Care 2018 in co-ordination with the PHCC Workforce Development and Training Directorate, in collaboration with the Sports Medicine experts from PHCC Wellness Team and Aspetar.
A total of 135 healthcare professionals from PHCC, Aspetar and other government agencies participated in the event.
