Ahmed Mohamed al-Obaidly, head of the South Areas Section at the Roads Projects Management Department in Ashghal, said the Al Mawater City project, which is located in the proximity of Rawdat Rashid area and Salwa Road, is the first of its kind in Qatar as it will provide one location for all activities related to both used and new vehicles. These include dealer shops, workshops, spare parts stores and associated government services such as Traffic Department offices, vehicle inspection facilities, Civil Defence and municipality offices in addition to banks, insurance companies among others.
Al-Obaidly added, “The new road is 1.8km-long and has three lanes in each direction with a separating median. It starts from the first roundabout on the new Rawdat Rashid Road and surrounds two sides of Al Mawater City. The road includes two signal-controlled intersections to connect to the local roads within the new development of Al Mawater City.”
He noted that the works completed within this phase included the installation of lighting poles and construction of a new electrical substation to power road and traffic lights. Safety barriers have been installed along the road in addition to traffic signboards and interlock. The road provides the new developments of Al Mawater with essential utilities such as water, electricity and telecommunication services, the statement adds.
This is in addition to constructing 1.8km of swales on each side of the road for surface water drainage.
The new road is part of the Local Areas Infrastructure programme, which is currently being run by Ashghal to construct and upgrade roads and infrastructure across Qatar and provide integrated infrastructure for new subdivisions.
