NHRC Programmes and Education Department director Mubarak Mohammed al-Safran said that the training aims to contribute to strengthening the capabilities of workers and monitoring officials. The participants received lectures introducing the UN International Organisation for Migration and the Sustainable Development Goals, and reviewed the sustainable development goals related to combating human trafficking and the concept of human trafficking in national law and international conventions.
Chief of UN Migration Mission in Doha, Iman Ereiqat, said that the course was the first joint activity in the context of consolidating the strategic partnership between the UN Mission and the NHRC. The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding this year with the aim of increasing co-ordination and co-operation on issues of mutual interest, particularly with regard to strengthening capacities in combating trafficking in persons and protecting the rights of migrant workers.
