New Kahramaa initiative to manage power transmission equipment

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation  (Kahramaa) has launched an initiative to manage its electricity transmission equipment in global standards.

The initiative launched by the Electricity Transmission Department  implements a sound, cost effective process and set of solutions that will reduce transmission substation equipment failure rate, optimise “repair or replace” decisions, define maintenance priorities, enable reliability/condition-based strategy for critical assets, reducing outages and extension of asset life based on sound models with  condition monitoring and  failure risk analysis.

The project will include oil analysis on power transformers fleet, infra-red thermography and visual inspections of all power equipment for transmission primary substations, consolidated with partial discharged measurements.

Data analysis will then be performed using Reliability Centered Matrix  software tool to project asset health indices and input from experts.

The three-year project will bring quick return on investment with implementation of consistent methodology, define maintenance and replacement plans and improve reliability of the system by avoiding failures.

Kahramaa again is taking lead in defining and implementing digital solutions to provide reliable and quality electricity while reducing operational and capital expenditures and a step in the direction of ISO 55000.
