New German embassy opens at Tornado Tower

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Qatar H E Dr. Claudius Fischbach, yesterday inaugurated the new German embassy premises in Doha at the Tornado Tower. 

Speaking during the flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the launch, Dr. Fischbach said the new premises is centrally located and will further encourage the growing relations between Germany and Qatar.

“This will be the centre of activities for us in Qatar, and we are convinced that we can do more for the continuous expansions of German-Qatari relations. We are also happy that we have several infrastructures around us, and a few good colleagues and friends are also close by like the Australian and the Canadian embassies,” he said. 

The new embassy is located on the 34th and 33rd floor of the building, with the latter being used as a consular section.

Now fully open for operations, the embassy was initially closed for one week to complete its move. The embassy announced that the consular and other services would be fully operational and open to visitors from February 13th (yesterday). Visitors are advised to book appointments via the embassy website. 

Qatar and Germany have enjoyed a significant bilateral relationship for decades, with around 1,800 Germans reportedly residents in Doha. Also, Qatar is one of the largest foreign investors in Germany and has substantial holdings in companies including Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank, Siemens, and Hapag-Lloyd.

Qatar plans to invest €10bn in the German economy in five years from 2018 to 2023. 

Qatar and Germany bilateral trade reached €1.5bn in 2020, while it was at €830m during the first half of 2021.
