Nepal’s President Bidhya Devi Bhandari yesterday expressed gratitude to Qatar for hosting Nepalese labourers and praised the good treatment which they enjoy in the public and private sectors.
Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal also praised the level of treatment enjoyed by the Nepalese community in Qatar, hailing the procedures being implemented by the Qatari authorities to improve the conditions of foreign workers.
The remarks came during the Nepalese leaders’ meeting with HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural (Unesco) director-general in Kathmandu yesterday.
During her meeting with HE al-Kuwari President Bhandari reaffirmed her support for Qatar’s candidate for the post of director general of Unesco and praised the deep relations between Qatar and Nepal, and expressed her keenness to visit Qatar.
She stressed that Nepal’s support for the Qatari candidate as Unesco’s director-general is an expression of appreciation for the distinct co-operation between the two countries in support of nominations in international organisations, and in appreciation for the excellent bilateral relations, and in recognition of the Qatari candidate’s high level of competence and experience to lead the UN organisation.
Dr al-Kuwari expressed his gratitude to the president of Nepal for her support, stressing the importance of enhancing co-operation for the restoration of Unesco to face of the challenges and serve its goals.
He hailed the constructive role of the Nepalese community in Qatar and their contribution to the country’s development process.

HE Dr al-Kuwari also met the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal Prakash Sharan Mahat, who praised the relations between the two countries, stressing his country’s support for the Qatari candidate which would pave the way for a greater co-operation between the two countries for the success of Unesco.
During his several days visit to Nepal, HE al-Kuwari also held a meeting with Education Minister Dhaniram Paudel. Al-Kuwari briefed the minister on his vision for the advancement of Unesco to meet challenges, shedding light on the pivotal role of education in counter-terrorism.
The meeting was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Nepal Yousef bin Mohamed al-Hail.
