The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)’s General Cleanliness Department removed more than 155,000 tonnes of waste from different areas in the country last month.
This included household garbage (76,016 tonnes), construction waste and debris (11,106 tonnes), solid waste (27,037 tonnes) and around 41,000 tonnes of other types of waste materials, the MME said in a statement.
The department also provided 912 new garbage containers around various buildings and locations across the country, in addition to removing 8,033 discarded tyres, 39 damaged road signs and 399 carcasses of animals.
Further, the department implemented 778 applications for cleanup in the same period.
Meanwhile, Al Sheehaniya’s Municipality Health Control Section conducted 100 inspection campaigns at various food facilities within its jurisdiction during April.
The campaign resulted in the closure of nine violating commercial outlets and issuance of 11 violation reports as well as a number of warnings to other shops to comply with health regulations while handling food products.
In addition, health inspectors at the section supervised the slaughtering of 526 heads of livestock at the abattoir, where they destroyed one full carcass of a sheep for being unfit for human consumption.
Fines collected for violations registered during this period amounted to QR52,500.
