Under this agreement, inmates of penal institutions will have an opportunity to complete their education to obtain a diploma and a bachelor's degree at Community College of Qatar. The agreement will allow them to acquire skills and abilities, and qualify them at the university level, to challenge their circumstances, take advantage of their imprisonment period and integrate them into the educational environment in order to create opportunities for them after they are released from prison.
Dr Khaled al-Abdul Qader, vice-president of the college, and Dr Maryam Mohamed al-Hammadi, dean of the Arts and Literature Division at the college, as well as section heads of the Penal and Correctional Institutions Department attended the signing ceremony.
Regarding the agreement, Brig-General al-Otaibi said it has a significant impact on the rehabilitation of inmates in a way that benefits them and contributes to changing their behaviour. He explained that this partnership comes within the framework of the keenness of educational institutions in the State to take care of inmates so that they can return to society and benefit from their period of imprisonment, especially that the goals that has been achieved pushes everyone to exert more effort in order to reform and rehabilitate this category.
For his part, Dr al-Nuaimi stressed the importance of this agreement to enable the inmates to complete their university education by creating a supportive educational environment for them to overcome their circumstances, rehabilitate and integrate them into the educational environment. achieve their aspirations and contribute to the desired development of the Qatari society. He pointed out that the first batch of students who are eligible to join the Community College will be received starting from the fall semester 2022 after completing the relevant approvals and procedures.
