Doha: The Ministry of Labour on Tuesday organized various events and activities in celebration of the National Sports Day, at Aspire Park, with the participation of the Ministry's employees, their families, and the general public.
The Minister of Labour HE Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri stressed the importance of National Sports Day and the role it plays in consolidating values and promoting community development.
"This day and the keenness of people from all walks of life in the country to participate in it, have been instrumental in sports have becoming an integral part of everyone’s healthy lifestyle, and how it reminds people of the need to practice it," the minister said.
"It is also an occasion that established the leading position of Qatar as a destination for sporting events regionally and independently, and contributed to the great achievement of Qatar in hosting the Qatar World Cup 2022, which was, according to everyone, one of the most successful international tournaments, which confirms the effective vision of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who had the foresight to have sports be an essential part of advancing society and the development of individuals’ physical and intellectual capabilities in line with Qatar National Vision 2030,” he said.
Dr Al Marri also added that the Ministry of Labour pays great attention to sports within the establishments and laborers' accommodation, in addition to its efforts in continuous awareness, in cooperation with Labour committees.
He stressed the importance of practicing sports because of its direct impact on enhancing the health of society, adding that the increasing participation annually in celebrating Sports Day encourages great values such as discipline, mutual respect, sportsmanship and teamwork, and contributes to the integration of societal groups and to educating individuals about the values necessary for social peace.
This year, the ministry organized various sports activities and events with the aim of encouraging various demographics of society to practice sports and carry out physical activities and raise their awareness of the importance of sports.
These included recreational activities, competitions, and sports tournaments such as football, handball, table tennis, and long jump.
The ministry's employees expressed their delight at participating in the Sports Day activities, stressing that these activities and events achieve the desired goals of Sports Day, which aims primarily to enhance the importance of sports as part of our societal culture, and to develop cohesion and unity among all members of society.
