Doha: The Ministry of Labor hosted Sunday the second GCC meeting to develop the social protection system in the GCC countries.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Labor, the Executive Office of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the International Labor Organization (ILO).
It discussed proposals for reforming social protection systems in preparation for submitting them to the GCC labor ministers at their next meeting to be held in the third quarter of this year.
The meeting introduced the participants to the Arab and international experiences in the field of expanding the scope of social protection systems for workers.
Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labor HE Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidli noted the GCC countries' interest in developing laws and legislations related to the labor market, stressing that work environment development in the State of Qatar is a continuous approach that is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Al Obaidli said that the GCC countries were committed to the development approach in all fields including the continuity of developing bilateral and GCC relations with labor-sending countries and strengthening these relations through paths of dialogue including social protection measures.
Organized by the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor and Social Affairs in the GCC countries, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and the ILO, the meeting was attended by specialists in the departments of expatriate worker protection and labor disputes of the labor ministries in the GCC countries and specialists in pension and insurance bodies and funds, in addition to the members of the expert group in the field of labor and international relations in the GCC countries and representatives of employers and workers.
