Ministry of Municipality and the Environment (MME), represented by the Centre for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS), yesterday organised a workshop on survey works to introduce the public to the important projects supervised by the centre.
Assistant Director of the CGIS Amer al-Humaidi, said that the workshop aimed at informing the authorities, both in the government and private sector, about the work of the CGIS and introducing them to the database that helps speed up the work mechanism.
He said that the projects and the huge technological development that Qatar is going through requires highly accurate data on the ground in terms of infrastructure or projects.
He pointed out that the centre aims through this workshop to provide a unified work environment by informing these bodies of the important projects and programmes it offers in terms of using survey data accurately and quickly.
Al-Humaidi added that the CGIS is the main provider of all institutions in the country with maps and survey programmes.
In the same context, Mohamed Ali al-Marri, head of the topographical department at the CGIS, and the head of regional office for surveying of the Arab Gulf states, which is affiliated with Arab Federation of Surveyors, said that the workshop aims to gather all the competent authorities in the field of survey work and inform them of the important projects of the centre, in addition to introducing the new services and applications provided by the CGIS in general in order to find a unified business umbrella in this field. – QNA
