The manufacturing industry of Qatar has contributed QR12.02bn to GDP in the first quarter of this year showing a growth in country’s manufacturing sector under state’s economic diversification plans.
According to infographics ‘Industrial Sector Indicators for Q2 of 2021’ shared by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) on its Twitter handle, 12 new factories were also added to industrial sector from April to June this year.
The data also shows that worth of total exports of local origin reached QR68.28m in Q2 of 2021. There was also an increase of 719 workers in factories in Q2 of 2021. The Ministry also revealed that 32 more local products were registered in Q2 of 2021.
The factories' adherence to industrial requirements has been 68% in the same duration. Also, Industrial Development Services are delivered at an average time of five days.
According to the Ministry’s data, Industrial-Manufacturing Production Index in April 2021 reached 105.2.
As per earlier data shared by the Ministry in June this year, the manufacturing industry had contributed over QR10bn to Qatar’s GDP in the fourth quarter of 2020 while the country had added 16 new factories to its manufacturing sector in Q1 of 2021.
Qatar National Manufacturing Strategy 2018-2022 aims to accelerate growth in the sector to develop and diversify state’s economy.
According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and industry in May this year, the recycling industry in Qatar currently produces 215 products from 135 factories. Paper products and the printing industry contribute 78 products from 62 factories.
Qatar’s building materials and chemical products industry has 281 factories with 392 products. The medical products sector makes 22 products from five factories.
Besides, the petroleum and petrochemical industry boasts of 28 factories that produce 64 products. The metal industry with 179 factories makes 291 products.
In the electrical equipment industry, Qatar’s 36 factories manufacture 93 products, while the food and beverage sector, with 86 factories, makes 177 products.
The textile industry makes 42 products from 15 factories, while the wood and derivatives sector produces 32 items from 36 factories. The machinery and transport equipment industry makes 124 products with 37 factories while the furniture-making sector makes 61 products from 28 factories.
