The first weekend of Mahaseel souq, which opened on January 7, is witnessing a huge turnout of shoppers, bringing another windfall to several participating local farms and companies.
The demand for fresh vegetable produce, milk and dairy products, and ornamental plants and flowers, remained high even after the Mahaseel Festival concluded last week.
The Mahaseel souq, located at Katara’s southern area, will be open from Thursday to Saturday, from 9am to 9pm until March 31.
Apart from regular customers, previous shoppers during the festival also returned to buy more items.
Locally-produced corncobs were among the bestsellers, as well as cucumber, bell pepper of different varieties, tomato, radish, eggplant, and green leafy vegetables, among other herbs at reasonable prices.
Some products such as honey and molasses, dates, animal meat, and other poultry items, were also on offer, giving shoppers a wide range of choices.
It is learnt that flowers and ornamental plants, including pots of different sizes, colours, and designs, in addition to gardening tools and equipment, were some of the fast moving items at the souq.
Katara – the Cultural Village is implementing a number of precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all at the Mahaseel souq, in line with the Ministry of Public Health’s directives to limit the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
Visitors are required to show a green code on their Ehteraz app, wear face masks, and practice social distancing.
