Lulu Hypermarket Qatar, the leading hypermarket chain in the region, has won the Corporate Social Responsibility Award in the category: ‘The Best Company in the Private Sector’ in the 7th CSR Awards this year.
Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, H E Yousef bin Mohammed Al Othman Fakhro; Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar Al Sharq Group; Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali Al Thani, Chairman of Social Responsibility Committee; and the Guest of Honour Dr. Talal Abu Ghazaleh, Dean of Arab Accountants were present at the ceremony.
Mohamed Althaf, Director of Lulu Hypermarket Qatar, received the Award in a splendid ceremony held on February 3, at Ezdan Palace Hotel. Recognizing CSR as one of its key missions, Lulu Hypermarket Qatar has partnered with the Social Responsibility Committee for the CSR Awards that was organised on the theme: ‘Social Responsibility between Ethical Commitment and Profitability’.
As a company with strong CSR policies, Lulu Hypermarket has always been at the forefront when it comes to giving back to the society and environment. As a committed supporter of various social initiatives, Lulu Hypermarket’s efforts have been very well accepted and appreciated by the community.
Lulu’s sustained efforts towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) started at the company's inception, and it has been pursuing the mission with a number of activities including introduction of ‘Price Freeze Policy’, partnership with Education Above All (Qatar Foundation) for the noble cause of charity, introduction of biodegradable shopping bags, introduction of bags for life (reusable shopping bags), introduction of paper bags, and introduction of ‘Borrow a Bag’ system.
Lulu’s other CSR initiatives are ‘Reduction of Sugar, Fat & Salt’, ‘Green Retail Partner of Qatar Sustainability Summit 2019’, ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Programme’, ‘We Love Qatar’ Promotion Campaign, Partnership with ‘AGRITEQ’ to promote Qatari products, the ongoing activities for the betterment of environment, and close association with Qatar Chamber of Commerce in all its activities.
Other initiatives include ‘Adopt a Fruit — Adopt a Vegetable’ campaign for children, permanent removal of tobacco and tobacco related products from the stores, observation of earth hour and the introduction of advanced training for the workforce and so on. As a major retailer in the region, Lulu Hypermarkets have developed a pre-eminent position in the retail sector by providing unique shopping experience to its clientele. With 12 state-of-the-art stores scattered across Qatar, Lulu Hypermarket is identified as one of the major market players in the retail arena.
