The Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by Al Shamal Municipality has issued guidelines for slaughtering sacrificial animals during Eid Al Adha.
As per the guidelines, the sacrificial animals should be slaughtered in authorised abattoirs under the supervision of veterinary doctors and not in open places.
The slaughterhouses should be equipped with necessary tools which must be hygienic and in good condition and ready for different types of animals. The workers of slaughterhouses should be in proper uniforms.
The sacrificial animals should be fit and meet all health and religious requirements. The meat of sacrificial animals should not be kept outside refrigerator for long. And the waste of slaughtered animals should be disposed properly. Â
Meanwhile, the municipalities announced a comprehensive plan for Eid Al Adha, focusing on intensifying and tightening health control on all food establishments, especially slaughterhouses, butcheries, consumer complexes to name a few, with determining the dates and mechanism of inspections.
The municipalities’ plans set out the tasks of its units, departments and agencies for Eid Al Adha, including continuous cleaning and supervision operations, as well as daily inspection of slaughterhouses, public kitchens and consumer complexes and centres to ensure the safety of products offered for sale and the way food is stored and traded.
The plan have also defined the ways and times of receiving complaints and alerting about compliance with sanitary requirements of buildings, establishments and parks, the proper handling of foodstuffs, monitoring any irregularities that are detected and taking appropriate legal action against violators in order to protect public health.
The Health Monitoring Section at Al Rayan Municipality will intensify inspection campaign on food outlets, sweet shops, restaurants, butcheries, fish and chicken shops.
Samples of meat and other food items will be taken to the Central Laboratory of the Ministry of Public Health to check weather they are fit for human consumption.
Municipal inspectors will be assigned to Muither and Al Rayan slaughterhouses. Veterinary doctors will be monitoring closely the slaughter of sacrificial animals from after Eid Al Adha prayer till 5pm on first day of Eid Al Adha. And from second to fourth day of Eid Al Adha, the inspection of sacrificial animals will be from 6am to 5pm.
Al Shamal Municipality will also dispatch municipal inspectors and veterinary doctors to check the sacrificial animals and their meats from 5am to 5pm throughout the Eid Al Adha.
