The Emergency Departments at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received on Tuesday a total of 2,223 cases from 5am to 5pm.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Wednesday that these included the Hamad General Hospital and Al Wakrah Hospital, in addition to the Paediatric emergency departments at Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Matar, Al Daayan and Al Shamal.
Dr Zainab Abdulmuhsin, emergency consultant at Hamad General Hospital, said that the department there received 565 patients, including 206 women. Out of these, 32 were admitted at the hospital for treatment, with 28 stable cases and the remaining being treated for different serious medical conditions. She also advised patients not to buy medications over the counter and seek proper medical help instead.
A medical source at Al Wakra Hospital said that the emergency department received 296 patients from 5am to 5pm on Tuesday.
Dr Mohamed al-Amari, deputy director of HMC Pediatric Emergency Department, said Al Sadd Paediatric Department received 774 children on Tuesday. A child who nearly drowned in a swimming pool was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and became stable soon. He said that one case was admitted at Al Wakra Hospital and another at Al Khor Hospital, besides two cases at Sidra Hospital.
Referring to the swimming pool incident, Dr al-Amari explained the child's father was able to resuscitate the child before medical assistance arrived. He also advised parents to monitor the activities of their children carefully and make them avoid spending long hours at outdoor swimming pools because the summer heat could exhaust them causing dangerous situations.
He recalled there were four cases of children surviving drowning this summer alone, compared to the same time last year.
