The Emergency Departments at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received 242 cases on the third day of Eid al-Adha holidays while the Ambulance Service responded to 284 calls for help, mostly of simple and medium cases in severity.
The paediatric emergency departments received 1,128 cases of sick children across the country, from 5am to 5pm on the day. Speaking to Local Arabic daily Arrayah, Dr Rana Abdalla, assistant director of the Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital (HGH), said that most of the cases received and treated at the emergency departments were suffering from mild stomachache, cough, fever, digestive complications and heat exhaustion, in addition to minor injuries in some road traffic accidents.
Dr Abdalla explained that most patients were treated and discharged soon as there were no complications. She also stressed that such figures are considered normal and below the usual number of daily cases reported at the emergency. Further, most of the cases suffering from heat exhaustion were among the beach goers who stayed under direct sunlight for long hours.
