Featuring traditional competitions and educational and recreational activities focusing on the Qatari and Arab heritage, the ongoing ninth edition of Halal Qatar Festival at Katara — The Cultural Village continues to attract a good turnout of visitors.
The festival witnessed strong competition between breeders in various categories of Al Mazayin competition for sheep and goats, according to a statement.
The festival, concluding on February 10, is aimed at highlighting the rich resources of the Qatari and Gulf heritage in an enjoyable atmosphere.
Apart from Al Mazayin competition, the festival features Al Mazad – livestock sales through the auction that contributes to the development of livestock production and Al Izab barns that put varieties of farm animals on display.
The festival is a unique platform to showcase and acquire the best breeds of sheep and goats and showcases specific methods that help in breeding and raising.

The event has also turned out to be a platform for prominent companies in halal breeding and veterinary products.
Dr Adel Mohamed Hajjar, an exhibitor, said his company is working to provide integrated services for breeders, provides the latest laboratory equipment and veterinary and food products.
The festival also features several activities for children, including the Little Shepherd competition in order to revive the heritage and teach the new generation about the skills, experiences, knowledge, ethics and values in the field of livestock and sheep farming.

There are barns at the festival, displaying goats and sheep.
Various government and private schools are bringing groups of students to visit the festival.
Children can ride camel and horses too.
“The students also enjoyed the recreational activities and competitions that caused their enthusiasm," the statement said.
Visitors at the festival can interact with traditional artisans who will explain how various items are made and how they were important in the old days.
The festival also has stalls for traditional and popular food products.
