Frozen pizza brand removed from Qatar shops due to possible contamination

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health has taken precautionary measures against Buitoni Fraich Up frozen pizza due to the possibility of contamination of certain batches with Shiga toxin produced by E.coli, after the ministry received a notification from the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed in this regard.

The Ministry of Public Health, on receiving the notification, contacted the supplier to withdraw the suspected items from the markets and samples were taken for laboratory analysis.

As part of additional precautionary measures, it has been circulated to outlets not to release any consignment of suspected pizza unless samples have been taken and its safety and suitability for human consumption has been proven.

Ministry urged citizens and residents not to consume any of the suspected types of pizza, the details of which are shown below, and to report to their health center if any symptoms related to food poisoning are suspected, such as fever or diarrhea.

Buitoni, owned by Nestle, had already issued a recall of its Fraich’up pizzas from shops in France and other countries due to a risk of E. coli contamination.

The action comes after French health authorities announced a resurgence of E.coli contamination cases.

French media quoted Pierre-Alexandre Teulié, general manager in charge of communications for Nestlé France, as saying that "there is no proven link between our products and the intoxications that occurred.” He said that the recall was an “initiative by Buitoni” and was a precautionary measure.
