Ambassadors have lauded the initiative to open the International Consular Services Centre (ICSC) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fans.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) inaugurated the centre in the presence of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and other dignitaries, including SC Secretary-General HE Hassan al-Thawadi, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 chief executive Nasser al-Khater and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 chief operating officer Colin Smith.

Also present at the inauguration were ambassadors and representatives of the embassies of the 31 countries that have qualified for the World Cup, in addition to the countries that have recorded the highest ticket sales for the tournament.

The ICSC opens to the public tomorrow.

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Qatar Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Abdullah al-Farhan al-Saud said that the initiative to establish the ICSC is ideal as it will serve fans attending the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

He said that the Saudis will come to Qatar in large numbers to support the Saudi national team at the World Cup.

The envoy added that all preparations confirm that the World Cup will be exceptional, in light of the distinctive infrastructure and stadiums prepared for the tournament, which convince everyone of the success of the event.

Poland's ambassador to Qatar Janusz Janke expressed appreciation for the initiative to establish the ICSC, saying in a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the step is a professional one by Qatar and the SC to deal with any challenges or obstacles that the public may encounter.

He expects a large number of visiting Polish fans, in addition to the Polish community residing in Qatar.

Spain’s ambassador to Qatar Javier Carbajosa Sanchez highlighted that the centre enables the public to have direct communication with the team that can solve problems.

He added that the Spanish national team will do everything possible to win its second title in the World Cup, after winning the first one in South Africa in 2010.

He called on Spanish fans to come to Doha, stressing that everyone will find it a beautiful country with hospitable people.

Iran's ambassador to Qatar Hamid Reza Dehghani stressed that the ICSC meets an urgent need to establish a consular centre that would provide services to those coming to Qatar, including Iranian fans who could number more than 30,000.

Senegal's ambassador to Qatar Dr Mohamed Habibo Diallo said the ICSC is a solution to all problems facing the public and enabling embassies to facilitate work for fans who will visit Qatar during the World Cup.

The envoy extended his thanks to Qatar, which has sponsored nearly 300 Senegalese fans to support the Senegalese team, which is competing in Group A that includes Qatar, the Netherlands and Ecuador.
