Eligible for third booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine 6 months after second dose: MoPH

DOHA: All people who have completed six months after receiving the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine are currently eligible to receive the third booster dose of the vaccine, the Ministry of Public Health announced.

The ministry explained that previously the requirements stipulated that an eight-month period must pass between the second dose of the vaccine and the third booster dose, but due to the increasing clinical evidence showing that the protective immunity most people obtain from the first two doses of the vaccine begins to gradually decrease after six months. So, it was decided to reduce the time between the second dose of the vaccine and the third booster dose to six months after the second dose.

The Ministry called on all people who meet the new conditions, regardless of their age, not to delay receiving the vaccine.

The ministry indicated that a slight increase in new daily cases was recorded in the past two weeks among people who had previously received the vaccine, which confirms that the battle against Covid-19 is not over yet.

It also called on people who are planning to travel abroad to ensure that they receive the booster dose of the vaccine before traveling, after the sixth month of receiving the second dose of the vaccine, due to the widespread spread of Covid-19 in many countries of the world.

The Ministry said that additional booster vaccines have been provided in all health centers of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) and they will contact people to set an appointment.

Any person who has not been contacted can get in touch with PHCC hotline on 40277077 to book an appointment.
